Bog oak and light wood – contrasting species in one interior
Bog oak does not have to be the only wood in the room. Paired with walnut or natural oak, it shows its depth even more clearly, and the lighter wood gains refinement beside it.
Walnut – warmth and grain
Walnut has a warm brown tone and a distinct grain. Our collection includes walnut coffee tables such as Walnut Grand, which sit well with bog oak furniture in the same space.
Natural oak – a light base
Natural oak is a calm background: floors, joinery or chairs in light oak let bog oak take the lead. This works well in a dining room, where the black table becomes the centre of the interior.
Combining species in one piece
In a bespoke project we can consider combining species in a single piece – for example a black top on a light base, or an inlay in another wood. The key is choosing wood of similar moisture content and a joint that lets it move.
Proportion
The rule of one dominant element works well: bog oak as the main accent and lighter wood as the background – or the other way round. Two equally strong species in one piece easily lose clarity.
