Bog oak and minerals – selenite, stones and unexpected pairings

Minerals bring something to bog oak that no other material can: the natural structure of crystal, the play of light and a cool contrast to the warm touch of wood. It is a pairing for interiors where a detail should start a conversation, not just decorate.

Selenite – light within black

Selenite has a distinctive silky lustre and a fibrous structure. Set in resin along a crack in the wood, it forms a pale vein running through the black – that is how the Selenite Vein coffee table came about. Selenite is soft and sensitive to water, so we always protect it with resin.

Stones and other minerals

On a smaller scale we combine bog oak with stones and tinted resin, for example in candle holders with blue resin and white stones. In bespoke projects we can consider other minerals – the choice depends on hardness, moisture resistance and how the material behaves in resin.

Practical questions to start with

  • Should the mineral sit on the surface or be embedded under a layer of resin?
  • What will the piece be used for, and how intensively?
  • Does the client have their own material (e.g. a stone with personal meaning) they want to include?
  • How should light work – daylight, spotlights, backlighting?

We are open to experiments. If you have an idea for a pairing you haven’t seen in our shop yet, write to us. We will check whether it is feasible and propose the best way to make it.
